More Books That Might Be Of Interest

The interest in Roger Johnson and Clayton Swanton's book on the Pine Lake Settlement churches made me think that the participants of the VR might be interested in several other books, that have been written by  our participants.  The first was Beret Strong's book about her grandfather and grandmother.  Her grandfather, Phillips Thygesen, was grandson of Elling Thygesen.  He became an internationally known Ophthalmologist, and throughout his career worked closely with his wife who acted as helper and editor.  It is a very interesting and well written story, and can be found on Amazon

I have noted, in an earlier Post, the excellent book and family genealogy that Jean Nelson Collins has done for the Nelson Family ... descendants of Gunder and Asborg Naas Nelson.  In addition to bringing up to date the Nelson family genealogy written in the 1920's by Asborg and Gunder's son Andrew George Nelson, Jean has included much information of the lines which descend from Knud, Ole and Elling.   This book may be obtained from Lulu.com.

The final, and most recent production, again from Lulu.com, is built around a 'novel' written by Marc's grandfather.  The story is the first section of a book which was to tell of the first five decades of the Hansen family in America.  It was a handwritten account that described his youth in Denmark, the eventful trip across the atlantic and on to Wisconsin (with 50 cents and a tacket), his first year in this country, working with/for his uncles on their farm and his visit to the great Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  This is mostly about my grandfather, but includes family pictures and a listing of his and Dorothe Marie Pedersdtr Ørvik's (Thygesen) descendants.  The publishing process was remarkably simple, straight forward and inexpensive.

Members of the Virtual Reunion might find any or all of these interesting.
