It is not very easy to explain the hold that 'genealogy' has for many ... or why 'the rest of the family' shares only a limited amount of the enthusiasm. A friend told me yesterday that he saw me as a 'connector', and as I review the things that I've done throughout my life and during the hours I've been spending finding 'cousins', I think that he found the right description. At any rate, I have enjoyed the year 'connecting' to previously 'lost' (at least to me and the 'found') cousins. Carol Naas has said, correctly I'm sure, that we should be much more interested in the present and future family, than in scouring the past. Yet in this age of dis-connection, in families and in our world as as a whole, it still seems worthwhile to seek and remember those for whom we were the future. So in the Spirit of this Season of New Hope and new chances, I would like to thank all of you who have joined our 'virtual reunion', and wish you a blessed and healthy Christmas and New Year. We should all hope that 2012 is a better year for our entire planet and her people, and where and when possible, work to make it so. My best to you all!

ReplyDeleteHi Marc - I see your test comment above for this post. -Melanie
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie. I'd appreciate it if everybody, who gets the email notice, or sees this otherwise, would make a comment to demonstrate that things are working. I'm still trying to figure out why some are having the problems that they are. Otherwise ... have a great New Year!. It would be nice, and should certainly be possible, to improve on 2011. Then again, the 'electoral process' AKA War on Sanity, won't make it easy.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteDropping in to wish everyone a Happy New Year! :)
