I would like to wish all of you a safe and happy 2013. In 2012 we have had a number of very welcome contributions, and I'm especially appreciative of Yvonne Morehouse and Carole Caauwe's help and contributions. I was also very happy to welcome the Fossing family. I hope that we will be able to fill in many more details of the life of Henry Fossing and and his descendants. I would also like to share much more of the information that has accumulated for the large Simonson line descended from Ole and Petra Thygesen. I am getting almost weekly messages from the Family DNA project at Ancestry. I have written to a number of persons who had somatic DNA testing done, and who were reported as being likely 'cousins'. Most have been very distant ... with estimates of sharing enough DNA to be likely 5th to 9th cousins, though a few were closer. Nobody had responded to my contact, and it's hard to understand why people bother to do (and pay for) the testing, and then not respond to persons who presumably received the same information. A number did provide on-line trees, but inspection didn't point to any promising Norwegian 'connections'. I had hoped to meet several of our western cousins, but stupidly fractured my hip, in July, and had to cancel our planned meetings. In May, I did have a chance to visit, in Massachusetts, with Nancy Kerrigan who is gr GD of Mariken Knudsdatter Langvarp, and thus my 2nd Cousin. We were joined by Dorothy Ritzen and her sister Dorren Anderson, who are 3rd cousins, since we share Knud Thygesen Naas Vaasjø as our gr gr GF. I then met in D.C. with Yvonne Morehouse and Web Naas, with whom I share gr x4or5 Grandparents, and Doreen's son Jeff Anderson. I hope that anyone, who expects to be anywhere near Madison, will let me know, so that we could look for ways to move our meeting from cyber-space to the real world. I send my best to all of you!
