Gr Gr Gr Grandmother Mariken

In view of the last Post, about the arrival of Thyge Knudsen Naas and family in 1845, today was a banner day.  I received an email from Carole Caauwe, who is a gr GD of Inger Tomine Thygesen Gregerson, with a file of very old photo that had been captioned 'wife of Thyge Knudsen'!   I have long thought that there must have been photos of Mariken Kurdola Naas, who was born in 1793 and died in 1877.  There are many family pictures of her daughter Asborg's Nelson family, but until today I had never seen a picture of our gr gr gr GM Mariken.  She is buried in Kasson, MN with her daughter and her family.  I have had a picture of a Kurdola sister, and there is a family resemblance that is quite convincing.  Moreover, the photo was taken at Kasson.  Here is the original photo, which had  suffered the ravages of time and handling, and a couple of my 'worked on'  versions which are intended to try to better bring out the person.  The original is of course the 'gold standard', and is wonderful to have.

 










               

This is the mother of Asborg, Knud, Ole and Elling ... and therefore the eldest of our Naas-Thygesen parents, and our closest common ancestor.  We will never have a photo of Thyge, since he died in 1846, before photos were available .  Many thanks to Carole for her alertness in realizing the we had a treasure we didn't know existed.
