This is the same message that I sent to those of you on the email list. It is mainly to reach others who have dropped by to 'look', and whom I am anxious to have join us and participate. Here's the message:
Some of the 'cousins' have had trouble making comments or interacting with the Virtual Reunion. The site is not 'private', meaning that anybody who uses the address http://tnreunion.blogspot.com/ is able to see the site. This, however does not, by itself, allow the person to make comments or Posts. To publish Posts, which will appear on the 'Home Page', and include whatever you want to say, as well as any photo files you want to include, you must have accepted my invitation to be an Author/Contributor. At the moment, Jean, Nathan, Melanie and Yvonne are contributors, but I would be happy to 'invite' anybody else who wants to be more active. Just let me know.
Probably more important will be the ability to make Comments, and I want all of you to be able to do that. Unlike Posts, comments can include only text ... no photos. In response to my request that you comment on a recent post, only a few have actually made comments If you tried, and didn't get a message about needing to be a 'member', you should see be able to see your comments. I have changed a Blogger 'setting' to allow 'anybody', who gets to the blog, to be able to comment. I have created this Post, again inviting you to comment. Hopefully any and all will be able to do so if you try. Those of you who have already responded, or made Posts, need not do it again, and anybody else who tries should able to be able to make a comment. I will see the comments that come in, but if you try and don't succeed, you will need to send me an email (mfhansen3@gmail.com) to let me know, and we'll try to get it fixed.
To be on the safe side, it is best to crate a 'Google Account'. If you have a gmail address, you already have an account, and a password. To make comments, it may be best to 'sign-in' with your google account and password before (or after) you go to the site. The Google account no longer forces you to have a gmail address, and you can use whatever your preferred regular email address is ... plus the Google account password.
The only purpose and value of the 'Reunion' site is to have a place for any of us to make observations, ask questions or put up content that would be interesting to anybody in the 'cousin' group.
I think that the persons who are recorded as 'members' are the persons who have created Google accounts, but I'm not sure. I created an account for my wife, Alice, and she showed up on the Member list. Other than sending you the URL, I did not do anything else to 'invite' most of you. You can feel free to share the site address with anybody whom you think would be interested, or who might have something to contribute. The VR site will continue to not be included in Google's blog listing, or in any search engine lists. So I don't think that there is a high probability that it will be infiltrated.
We are happy to welcome new Fossing and Simonson cousins. It would be great if the new people would use the comment space on the 'Place to introduce yourself' page. There no longer seems to be a restriction on the number of 'pages', but I am the only one, as 'administrator' or 'owner' who can do that. There is a way to share this function, and I would be happy to do so if anybody else is interested. Or, tell me what pages you'd like to have. We are already Three days into the New Year! I hope that it will be a good one.
