2016 ... !! A New Year for Our Virtual Reunon

It is difficult to believe that 2015 has come and gone.  Over the last year I have given the address for the blog to a number of the people with whom I have matching DNA.   For a number of matches, we have been able to know the individuals who represent the generations back to the Closest Common Ancestor (CCA).   The closest are several members of this group, and KTN(1760), but most CCAs are back in the early 1700s or the 1600s.

Most people who look at the Virtual Reunion are impressed and say nice things, but few sign up ... and there have been only a few comments, and no Posts from any of the members who had asked to be signed up as 'authors' or 'contributors'.  I would be glad to enlarge that list, but there's no point in doing so unless those interested identify themselves.

I have distributed my book about the Hansen Family to all my (few) first cousins.  Members of this group would be most interested in the Norwegian line ... which is half of the whole book.  I think that I have sent a notice out to all the 'Virtual Reunion Cousins', but will do it again.  Such messages seem often to get directed to Junk.   I have put the files for the book on Dropbox, so it is available to read in cyberspace.

The URL is :   https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16493708/HansenFamly-Vol2Norway.pdf       This address will download the file to your Download folder.

I continue to welcome, and use, any comments or questions that I get.  I have made a few additions to the Drangedal lines, which were already very long,  but there have been no amazing findings or 'break-throughs'.

I am planning to make one more visit to our Norwegian cousins, probably in September.  I have a number of specific places that I would like to visit, including the Knud Thygesen Gard, Vaasjø Sæteren Hegna.  I would also like to visit Kurdøla, which was his mothers home.  Our Fossing cousins sent me a number of Photo cards from Kragerø.  Most were completely unknown, but one was very interesting.  My Norwegian cousins agree that it is of Knud and Dorthe Marie Våsjø's daughters Asberg, Karen and Liv.  They look very different, except for Liv Pauline, than their pictures from photo of all the siblings (except Mariken Tomine, the eldest and my gr GM).  All three in this photo came to this country in the mid-1880s.  Liv died a year, after arrival, at her uncle Ellings  farm at Martel in Pierce County, Wisconsin:

My best to you all for 2016!

  1. Thanks, Marc, for keeping us posted. Been busy traveling to some very un-Nordic places like the Caribbean, although I am still not fully retired. I did make it to Medicare in December, 2015.

  2. Marc, is there anything left of the Ellings farm (or other Thygesen properties) to see in or around Martel, Wisconsin? Do you happen to know of any addresses of such locations? Someday I'd love to go visit there. Thanks, Jean Tyler Southworth

    1. Jean ... I know where the property was in the plat map, but as far as I know there is noting left of the property. I think that someone else of the Gregoresen line told me that everything had been torn down or carried away. It may have been in the material that your mother sent to me. I'll send you an email with more. Thanks for the comment. More than the Thygesen farm, the Thygesen cousins should make the trip out to see Rush Creek Cemetery ... and even more importantly the grave of our gr gr gr GM Mariken in the Nelson family plot in the Kasson, MN cemetery.
